Mascara isone of the simplest ways to elevate your look and add definition to your eyes, but if you’re someone with poker straight lashes that just don’t seem to curl (or hold a curl) it can be a challenge to help your lashes stand out without getting a lash lift or lash extensions.
With makeup artist tips and the right mascara – long, lengthened lashes can be achieved.
WHAT MASCARA SHOULD I USE FOR STRAIGHT LASHES?
If you have straight lashes that seem to stay flat without any curl or lift, a lash lifting or defining mascara is likely to help.
Our Lash Idole Lash Lifting Mascara is one of our best mascaras for straight lashes. It features a curved mascara wand which instantly lifts & fans out lashes for an open eye effect lasting up to 24 hours.
For lengthening, separating and lash defining benefits try our Définicils High-Definition Mascara which coats each lash from root to tip to help lengthen and define lashes to create natural-looking lashes and a "no makeup, makeup" look.
FOUR MASCARA TIPS TO GET THE MOST OUT OF MASCARA FOR STRAIGHT LASHES
Embrace the curl! An eyelash curler is essential for those with poker straight lashes. To enhance the experience, warm the utensil up in your hands to avoid cold metal on lashes and any possible damage. Curl gently, several times for more curve.
Prep it Choose Lancôme's Cils Booster XL Mascara Primer the #1 mascara-enhancing lash primer to cover each and every lash properly. The eyelash primer helps prepare your lashes so everything else you apply glides on easily and you end up with longer & more voluminous lashes.
Use a waterproof mascara Waterproof mascaras are formulated to be more resistant to humidity and moisture, which means that they can help hold a curl better than non-waterproof formulas. So if you find that your lashes tend to straighten out throughout the day, try using a waterproof mascara to help them stay curled for longer. Our top mascaras are available in waterproof formulas including Lash Idôle Waterproof Mascara, Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara, Hypnôse Drama Waterproof Mascara, and Définicils Waterproof High Definition Mascara.
Remove all traces When it comes to mascara for sensitive eyes, one of the most important steps is to wash up well at night. Leaving old makeup on will mean you get left with residue that can lead to residues left. Use Bi-facil Eye makeup remover before bedtime to remove all your eye makeup. And, remember not to rub! Eyelashes are fragile and can easily break off so the gentle approach is best. You may also like to try the double cleansing method if you’re wearing a lot of makeup.
PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST TIPS ON APPLYING MASCARA FOR FAKE LASHES
German Moyano, Lancôme’s Makeup Artist and Education Director Makeup artist says whether your lashes are thin, long, short or straight it’s all about where the curve goes. “Short lashes - at the very root and long lashes - just in the middle.” German uses small eyelash curlers on the outside corner and even tweezers to construct a regular line. He also recommends using a heated eyelash curler and applying a curling mascara (like our Lash Idôle Mascara, which has a curved brush and instant lash-lifting properties) focus on the roots, for the best angle.
EXPERT MASCARA TIP 1: USE A MIRROR TO APPLY MASCARA
Experts use a mirror below the lash line for the best angle to see and control the mascara application process.
EXPERT MASCARA TIP 2: DOUBLE UP MASCARA’S
Lancôme makeup artist German Moyano agrees that more than one mascara coat is a must. In this case, more is more. The best Lancôme mascara to layer on: Hypnôse Drama with its fluid texture and triple-coat system that prevents flakes and delivers buildable and dramatic volume.
You may also like to use the mascara cocktailing technique which involves layering two different mascaras together.
EXPERT MASCARA TIP 3: APPLY MASCARA FROM THE ROOTS…
Always start by applying mascara at the very roots of the lashes to give extra lift and curl – our Lash Idole Lash Lifting Mascara, with a brush that features 360 micro-bristles to grab every lash from root to tip (no matter the length).
EXPERT MASCARA TIP 5: FILL IN THE WATERLINE
By filling in the waterline on the upper eyelid with waterproof eyeliner or kohl pencil you’ll create a denser base for longer-looking, voluminous lashes. The waterlining and tightlining eyeliner technique helps to fill in the gaps between your lashes and help them look thicket and longer.
BIG NO-NOS WHEN IT COMES TO CARING FOR YOUR MASCARA FOR STRAIGHT LASHES
DON'T store your mascara in direct light
Mascara tends to try out fast and storing it somewhere too warm will not help.
By pulling the mascara wand in and out of the tube repeatedly, air will get into the wand, which can cause it to dry out faster.
DON'T keep it too long
Mascara should be replaced every 3 to 6 months and if you start to notice the product drying out or not performing as well as it used to it’s time to replace it. Did you know there are other products that also need to be replaced regularly? Beauty products have a shelf life!
